CBCT stands for cone beam computed tomography. It's a type of imaging technology that uses a cone-shaped X-ray to create 3D images of the head and neck, including the teeth, jaws, and face.
CBCT scans are used by dental professionals and radiologists for a variety of clinical applications, such as: Planning dental implants, Assessing cleft palates, Diagnosing cavities and dental trauma, Evaluating the jaws and face, and Visualizing abnormal teeth.
CBCT scans are more detailed than traditional X-rays, which are two-dimensional and only show the teeth and surrounding structures. CBCT scans are also faster and non-invasive, and patients don't experience any pain during the exam.
